Letter from Mariana Belcombe, York to Thomas Norcliffe, Langton

Slumber Parties with Charlotte Norcliffe

West Yorkshire Archive Service SH:7/ML/46

Requests that Charlotte Norcliffe may remain their guest a little longer

York Oct[obe]r: 20th 1812

Dear Sir,

Tis a given and received opinion

that the fair sex, can never plead in vain,

how tho’ I do not exactly come under this

description, yet being one of the feminine

gender, I hope I shall meet with the indulgence

I crave, namely that you will allow Charlotte

to remain our guest some time longer, for I

only returned from my travels on Monday last

and since then have had so much to see, and

so much [to] hear, that I have hardly yet got a

glimpse of her. If the gig must come tomorrow

tell dear Bell, she cannot do better than step

into it, and spend the day with us, her letter

waited my arrival here, for which by her to accept

my best love and thanks. All the party unite

with me in kindest regards -

Y[ou]rs much obliged

Mariana Belcombe
